SENS Clinical Externship Opportunity – Fall Semester
Location: SENS Psychology, Washington, DC/The Wharf or Arlington, VA (hybrid)
Type: Fulltime (16 hours) or Supplemental (5+ hours)
Company Description: SENS Psychology is a boutique psychotherapy practice offering concierge mental health services and business consultancy in the Washington DC-Baltimore Area. With a focus on design and personalized solutions, we help individuals and businesses achieve peak performance and success.
We are dedicated to providing high-quality care to a diverse clientele, including high achievers and other ambitious types. Our specific focus is on those achievers who face systemic struggles due to gender, race, background, or complex family trauma. We serve clients with two primary areas of focus: workplace issues and romantic relationship dynamics. Additionally, we provide extensive support for clients dealing with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, complex PTSD, and identity exploration challenges. We also serve the LGBTQIA+ community with a deep commitment to inclusivity and understanding. We also provide sex therapy and relationship counseling for nontraditional/poly relationships.
And, this fall, we are offering an exciting collaboration within the Psytech space and the opportunity for trainees to participate in a startup environment.
Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and advanced student in a Clinical Ph.D./Psy.D., Counseling Ph.D. program, or an impressive candidate from a master’s level program, to join our team for a fall externship. This position is ideal for students seeking additional clinical hours and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a diverse range of clients. Options for supervision in couples counseling, nontraditional relationships (poly, etc.), and sex therapy are possible.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide individual therapy to adults and adolescents, focusing on issues such as anxiety,
depression, sex therapy, workplace crises, complex PTSD, and identity exploration.
• Work with clients in both traditional and nontraditional relationship structures, including nonmonogamy and polyamory.
• Opportunity to work with couples.
• Explore opportunities to engage in sex therapy, with support and supervision.
• Minimal assessment requirements, with opportunities to engage in additional assessments if desired.
• Maintain a caseload with the potential to build a strong, consistent schedule.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care.
• Participate in case consultations and supervision sessions.
Qualifications:
• Current enrollment in a Clinical Ph.D./Psy.D., Counseling Ph.D. program, or an advanced master’s level program.
• Strong interest and experience in working with high achievers, sex therapy, anxiety, identity exploration, depression, workplace crises, and LGBTQIA+ populations.
• Experience or strong interest in working with nontraditional relationship structures,
including nonmonogamy and polyamory.
• (optional) Interest in exploring sex therapy under supervision.
• Ability to commit to a minimum of 5 hours per week.
• Openness to continuing in the Spring/Summer semester(s) if good fit.
• Willingness to engage in both individual and, if applicable, couples therapy.
• Excellent team attitude, flexibility and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to ethical and evidence-based practice.
• Evening or weekend hours available.
